A good way to back up large amounts of data is to create disk images. Even if the hard disk fails, you will still have your critical files, in the same folders structure, in a virtual image file. R-Drive Image is designed specifically for backing up or duplicating partitions. It offers a variety of tools, for creating disk images, mounting them, recovering data from the images and more. The software provides detailed instructions for all operations, so even inexperienced users can back up their drives without getting lost in any settings.

You can evaluate R-Drive Image's capabilities for 30 days, without any serious restrictions. Downloading and installing the software should not take more than a minute, even on older machines. It works on Windows 2000, as well as later editions, up to Windows 8 and it doesn't ask for any additional tools or services.

Regardless of what operation you wish to perform, R-Drive Image will guide you with step-by-step instructions all the way. The operations which you can perform are represented by large buttons and you can hover with the mouse cursor over them to view short descriptions. The software will take you through different steps, depending on the selected operation. If you decide to create an image, you will have to select one or more drives, specify a destination folder and make other settings, like adjusting the compression ratio, selecting an image split size or password-protecting the image file.

R-Drive Image places two recovery options at your disposal. You can either restore an entire drive from a created image, or you can restore individual files or folders. Another useful feature is the possibility of mounting created images as logical disks. This means that you can back up new data on existing images, instead of creating new images each time you wish to back up your files.

The software comes with other useful capabilities as well. You can create startup disks, copy a disk's contents to another disk and check image files for consistency issues. Furthermore, R-Drive Image allows you to create scripts, just like creating an image file, which can be scheduled to run automatically on a regular basis.

Pros

You can create images from entire disk partitions. The software allows you to restore an entire disk or individual contents. Also, images can be mounted as logical disks.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention. If a traditional backup utility is not enough for your large amounts of data, you can use R-Drive Image to satisfy your needs.
